If you're like me, the winter season my skin is horribly dry. It's not just my face that looks dry, my legs are dry and flaky and really get itchy. This unusually dry skin is the result of the sebaceous glands produce less oil due to cooler temperatures. Another factor is the low humidity in the home and outdoors. There is no moisture for your skin to absorb. These combined factors of lower humidity and less oil production in the skin produce terrible dry skin, itching.
Not a problem to find out what your skin needs – it needs moisture and extreme hydration to relieve dryness and itching. The problem is to find a product really moisturizes and softens the skin.
From my experience lotions seemed full of perfumes do more harm than good. They actually made my legs itch more! I've tried Eucerin, who worked for me, because it contains no irritating fragrances that are known for dry or sensitive skin and it seems to retain moisture. In addition, I tried several home remedies that have worked well and revived the dryness and itching in the legs.
These are just a few of some of the ingredients natural relieve dry skin and are easy on the environment too!
Almond oil, olive oil or vitamin E – oils are more resistant than lotions and really lock in the moisture. Apply on the skin right out of the shower after drying.
Safflower oil – A reader has sent this recommendation in another article the dry skin and said it worked very well for her.
For an excellent moisturizing oil bath, add 5 drops of essential oil Favorite to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil such as almond or safflower. Shake the bottle well. Working with essential oils that you can easily customize your fragrance bath for your taste and moisturize at the same time. However, I think a note of caution is due here – when working with essential oils, to know their properties as they are powerful. For example Rosemary is stimulating and should not be used by pregnant women as an example. Make sure you understand the properties of essential oils.
Other ways to combat dry skin is to avoid hot showers, and if the bathroom do not stay in the tub forever stripping natural oils in the skin. If you are a swimmer then consider a milk bath or bath oils to moisturize the skin while bathing.
Consider a humidifier for your home. Do not have a humidifier, then simply place a few cups of water through the heat registers.
