Here are some excerpts from it in the event that information is sufficient for you. Good luck. CAUSES Guttate psoriasis is rare. It is usually seen in patients younger than 30 years. Often develops suddenly after an infection, most often strep throat. Guttate psoriasis is not contagious. Psoriasis appears to be an inherited disorder. The Doctors think it occurs when the body's immune system mistakes healthy cells for dangerous substances. Symptoms: Symptoms include itching and spots on the skin, called skin lesions that are red and look like teardrops. The spots may be covered with silver, flaky skin called scales. The spots are appear on the arms, legs, and upper body (trunk) but may occur in other areas of the body. Screening and diagnostic tests is usually based on appearance of the spots. Often, a person with this type of psoriasis has recently had a sore throat or upper respiratory infection. Tests to confirm the diagnosis include throat culture, skin biopsy TREATMENT: The goal of treatment is to control symptoms and prevent secondary infections. Mild cases of psoriasis is usually treated at home with any of the following: cortisone (anti-itch) cream dandruff shampoos (counter or prescription) lotions containing tar coal prescription moisturizers containing vitamin D or vitamin A s) PROGNOSIS: Psoriasis is a lifelong condition that can be controlled with treatment.
