Hello Hermoine. Vitiligo (Pronounced / ˌ vɪtəl.aɪɡoʊ / (Play), UK: / ˌ vɪtɨlaɪɡoʊ /) is a chronic disorder that causes depigmentation in patches of skin. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation resulting from the neural crest, die or are unable to function. The pathogenesis, or cause of vitiligo is complex and not yet fully understood. There is some evidence to suggest it is caused by a combination of autoimmune genetic and environmental. It is also common in people with thyroid disorders. The impact on the world's population is considered to be less than 1 percent. -Segmental vitiligo do not have a higher prevalence than the other way the disorder (s). Strictly speaking, Leucoderma is not a medical term, but has come to mean any white / light colored skin patches. In very general terms, white patches can be purchased or may be present at birth. Again, both acquired and patches congenital skin can result from the hordes of reasons. While congenital patches are not very important – because most of them are birthmarks anyway disease in which these patches became generally known as Leucoderma (or Leucoderma in medical terms). Other acquired white patches often follow a previous condition. Visit this site and see if this helps, Regards http://www.indiaparenting.com/health/data/health00_014.shtml.
